“The people here know what they want“

Press release from 18th April 2006

Talking about sweets in Germany, then more and more from production locations in Mecklenburg West Pommerania, especially in the sweet Ludwigslust County. Besides Grabow Sweets and the Boizenburg enterprise Gummibaer Factory and ToffeeTec, a further company - Sweet Tec GmbH - has been producing sweets in the city on the Elbe River.

Managing director Oliver Schindler showed himself to be satisfied with the location at an information visit from both the CDU Member of Parliament Maika Friemann - Jennert and Andreas Petters. "The Mecklenburg landscape attracts me, but an enterprise cannot exist on that alone – one also needs clever ideas and practical people. The people here know what they want." At the moment 68 staff members belong to Sweet Tec in Boizenburg, by the end of 2007 we should have about 100 who produce the 12,000 tonnes of hard boiled and soft sweet specialities yearly.

Because there are no “pure sweet experts” in the region, the enterprise is investing a lot of time and energy into qualifying the appropriate workers in the form of 4 week long training measures. Whoever comes out of the bakery or dairy work areas has a good chance in the so-called boiling area of the sweets factory. With mechanical know-how or as a machinist, one brings good criteria to be able to work on the kneading or wrapping machines. Diligence, reliability and discipline are needed in every area, all the more in a food processing company.

Maika Friemann - Jennert(MdL) praised Oliver Schindler’s plans to build a company kindergarten together with the neighbouring companies. The thought is also to one day have a “glass production line”. “ That would be a highlight in our county”, says Andreas Petters as tourism politic speaker for the CDU “ We can show tourists not only the many beautiful landscape areas in our county but also for example where the Vielanker Beer is brewed and where the delicious sweets come from.”

Sweet Tec managing director Oliver Schindler is conscious of his responsibility in Mecklenburg West Pommerania, where there are still too many enterprises that are not doing well and concludes, “We have to do more for the marketing so that we become more well-known in our country - we have to encourage enterprises for example, in Hessen and Baden – Württemberg. We have to give them good reason to invest here."

This project is co-financed by the European Union and the state of Mecklenburg West Pommerania
